Sàpiens, Descobrir Catalunya and Descobrir Cuina stand out among the most widely-read monthly publications according to an audience study of the Catalan-speaking market, which came out yesterday
The publication Contrapunt, currently with one edition in Mollet and another being prepared for launch in Badalona, is one of the most widely-read free weekly magazines in the Catalan-speaking territories Four publications put out by companies in the Grup Cultura 03 appear at the top of the first audience rankings of the Barometer of Communication and Culture, published yesterday. The study measures and analyses media audiences and cultural consumption in the Catalan-speaking market (Catalunya, País Valencià and Balears), which consists of 13 million consumers. Some of the leading publications were the monthly magazines Sàpiens, Descobrir Catalunya and Descobrir Cuina, published by Sàpiens Publicacions, and the weekly Contrapunt Diari de Mollet, published by the cooperative Contrapunt. According to the results of the Barometer, taken from a sample of 39,186 individuals a year by means of in-depth 45-minute personal interviews, the magazine Sàpiens, with 96,000 readers, is among the twenty most widely-read monthly magazines in the combined Catalan-speaking territories. The leadership of Grupo Cultura 03 magazines is clear in the ranking of magazines published in Catalan. In this case, Sàpiens is at the top of the list, followed by Descobrir Cuina in second place with 44,000 readers and, in fourth position, Descobrir Catalunya with 31,000 readers. The free weekly Contrapunt Diari de Mollet, published by the Cultura 03 cooperative Contrapunt, is one of the most widely-read weekly publications, with 13,000 readers. With current circulation at 10,000 issues, Contrapunt is preparing to extend the model to other Catalan cities with the launching of a free weekly in Badalona in 2008.
